WILSON'S SCHOOL'S OUT BEACH PARTY TOURNEY

Saturday JUNE 11, 2005

65 Teams

We had 65 teams playing in 7 divisions on 15 courts.  It was HOT, but almost everyone survived...did have one teams quit early but...that was it.  Actually the air was not that bad, it was the sand that was hot. Temps ONLY (right) 88 for a high on the beach.  There was excellent play in all divisions and we did have some old, new winners.  Good to see Hannah/Jackie (each 17) move up to women's open after winning a last tourney... I was also pleased to see some of the other juniors move up to A...Come on some of you 15's (Suzie...) I would like to see some of you move up to at least the 18's ... that is if u want to get better... But remember juniors; the adult women do call/enforce the rules. That will be your hardest adjustments...And remember moving up is not unheard of... the youngest people to play open is of course Robert/Lucas who were both 16 and under when they started playing/wining Men's Open. Of note we will have sand socks next week but not sure if our ball order will be in or not...anyway hope to cya next Sunday and here are the results.

Congrads to some local "OLD BALLERS" who, for the 2nd time in 2 years, won the USAV INDOORS Open 40< CHAMPIONSHIPS which I think was in CO this year but that part is unimportant....  Oh, old ballers are not their team names just an adjective that young people (my kids) call some of the volleyball players over the age of 40...  This year the local guys knocked off Brazil in 3 matches (after loosing to them in pool) 25-23, 23-25, 15-13. Last year they beat some old AVP players so the competition they are playing, and beating, are some of the best "old ballers" in the world....  CONGRADS Thomas Pratt, Keith Kubichek, Pat & Randy Johnston, James Bailey, Out of town old ballers.... Keith Jones (TN), Oral Gunther (Ga), Aric Anders, Robert (CA)...

Men's Open   (9teams) Final 25-10  1.  Garrett/Rich ($140)  2.  Thomas Pratt/Steve   3.  Johnny 5, Pat Ransom  4.  Thom/Doug

Men's B/BB  (12 teams) Final 25-20  1.  Anthony/Lucas  2.  Viet/Nick

Coed BB  (8 teams) Final 25-17  1.  Susan/Mike (Austin)  2.  Jessica/Jeremy  3.  Daniel/Julia

Women's A   (11 teams) Final 25-18   1.  Angie Collins. /Kim Harvey  2.  Rachel Perry/Debora W.  3.  Julie F. /Barbara C.

Women's AA   (5 teams) Final 25-21  1.  Nicole/Mirele  2.  Karen B. /Angie O.  3.  Hannah/Jackie

Women’s 18 (8 Teams) Final 25-21  1.  Caitlyn Trice/Stormi Gale  2.  Lindsay Ellisor/Jessica Barreva

Juniors 15< 12 teams) Final 25-14  1.  Lauren Schoger/Brannan O’Neill  2.  Nicole/Megan Smith

Sunday June 19, 2005

OCEAN POTION/GCVA "Hot As Hell" Classic

Sunday August 7, 2005

54 Teams in 6 divisions on 14 courts.

Thanks to everyone who was brave enough to come out for our Annual Ocean Potion/GCVA "Hot As Hell" Classic.  Everyone is aware that the temperatures, this year, have been above normal.  It really got "Hot As Hell" in May and has never cooled off.  I know two or three of the hottest tournaments we have ever had have been this year.   Well this year's Annual "Hot As Hell" classic was not one of them.  Yes by any standards it was hot.... The thing is we started early (Did Start the tourney at 8:40, and was done by 3:30 - earliest end EVER) and was hazy for the good part of the day. So with the early start, the hazy clod sky...it was just "Humid as Hell" till about 1:30 then the sun came out for a couple of hers and it was HOT.... still not as bad at the last two tourney's but it was HOT.   I will say the competition was pretty darn even, except for a couple of teams.... not to mention any names (Suzy)... I did see in a lot of pools some teams would be 3/1 or 4/2 with a plus 9 total...winning all games/loosing all games in pool by 2 or 3... so even competition is good.  I know it was hard fought battles in all divisions.

Men's Open   (6 Teams) FINAL 25-21   1st: Karlis Dunens/David Lee   ($100 + T's)  2nd: Thom Huggins/Daniel Romero  3rd: James Baily/Pat Johnston, Marc/Carlos

LEAGUE CITY KING/QUEEN OF THE BEACH

Saturday August 20, 2005

38 players

We had a little better turnout this time especially in the Men’s A/AA which doubled from the last KOB to 16 players. So 3 rounds 12 games later it was rough in the AA. We had a good Women’s AA turnout but the BB in the men’s and A in the women’s shrunk a little from last KOB.  Well it did start out HOT, but cooled off somewhat by 6PM. Everyone seemed to enjoy their selves…most hung around for hours after they finished to talk, drink, watch and just enjoy the play and the evening.  Hope to cya all next time.

Men's A/AA   (16 Players)  King> Drew Hamilton  Prince> Marc A. or Carlos – I will have to check  Duke> Carlos or Marc  Joe T. did make it to the final 4.

Men's BB    (8 Players)  King> Jay Jackson    Prince> James Rodgers  Duke> Jarred (David Cripps friend)  Court Jester:  Travis Clifford -

Women's AA   (8 Players)    Queen>.   Holly R.  (Great final round)  Princess> Angie O.  (Killing the ball all day)  Dutches> Jodi Winchiski  Ginger rounded out the final 4

Women’s A (6 Players)      Queen> Janelle  Princess>. Michelle

OCEAN POTION/GCVA "LABOR DAY WEEKEND" Classic

Saturday September 3, 2005

35 Teams in 6 divisions on 10 courts.

Thanks to everyone who did come out, despite all the bad weather in the area.  And for those who did not come out, yes we did play.  Stewart Beach never did get all the rain that took place all over the Galveston/Houston area.  When the tournament did start it was very cloudy, windy with storms moving across the GULF.  That took place for about 3 to 4 hours and the weather was really cold, people were putting on sweats, jackets etc for a while, then it cleared and after it cleared, it rained, with the sun out.  The rain was not hard and only lasted about 1/2 hour.  Then for the later part of the day it was humid and hot.  Not real hot so it really turned out to be a great day for us.  There appeared to be nobody else at the park but for us it was, I thought the best day we have had since early May.  The turnout was low but the play was great.  The AA was one of the best we had all year, as far as competition with some very big hitters in the Men's and women's.  Good to see some of our GCVA buddies back down at the beach like Robert Wisniakowski and (little Riley Lucas Wisniakowski who Papa wanted to name volleyball Lucas) even Arnold Smithhart came in from Corpus (And tanks to Wende's FRIEND for giving Arnie's car a jump), Hollis was back playing with Thomas, Raymond/Steve, Sal/Ho, Vicki/Terri… a great day at the beach.
