2019 Session 2 Welcome E-Mail:
The second session of Little Spikers is quickly approaching and we are excited to get going! Whether you are returning from Session 1 or new to Session 2, welcome to the GCVA Little Spikers program.
First off, I would like to make sure that all parents are aware this is our developmental program. As stated on our website, “GCVA Little Spikers is our Developmental Program and is perfect for players 8 through 12 who are looking to develop the necessary skills to one day enter club or school volleyball.” If your player is slightly older or younger, that is totally fine, but we do not assume any player has volleyball experience when they walk in the door. We do make teams initially based on age, but changes may occur over the first couple weeks of the session to make teams more skill-based and ensure players are with like-skilled players. I will have a parent meeting the first week of practices which will go into more detail about the team-placing process as well as tournament playing time protocols.
Practice are held at Clear View Education Center. Address: 400 S Walnut St, Webster, TX 77598
Practice times are 5:30-7:00 for both the Tuesday session and the Thursday session.
ON THE FIRST NIGHT OF PRACTICE (February 12th for Tuesday session and February 14th for Thursday session), we will conduct an initial check in and distribute equipment. We will also do a uniform try on for new players at check-in. I would like to be done with the check-in process by 5:45, so please be sure to get to practice promptly. From 6:45-7:00 we will have a parent meeting, so please be there if at all possible. I will discuss some practice and tournament expectations and allow the coaches to introduce themselves. We will practice with the girls from 5:45-6:45, so we’d love for you to stay between check-in and the parent meeting and watch and see some of the things that we do ??
Lastly, but very importantly, in regards to the first practice, if not already completed this year, you will need to register your player for USAV. If you played session 1, you should be good with this, but if you are new to session 2, this will be something you need to take care of PRIOR to the first night of practice.
This registration process does require a one-time, annual fee. I believe it is about $45 and this will need to be paid as you register. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU SELECT GULF COAST VOLLEYBALL ASSOCIATION as your club.
As far as attire for practice, please have your player wear their practice shirt to each practice. I would ask that you get your player kneepads, if possible. As far as volleyball shoes go, that is optional. At this point, tennis shoes work just fine.
If for some reason you cannot make your practice day one week, I do not mind if you come to the other day's practice. However, please do not bring your player to both practices for any other reason, as we have a limited amount of space and players work with their teams each night to prepare for tournaments.

Most tournaments have an AM and a PM wave and last anywhere from 3 – 5 hours. Tournament schedules are not finalized until the week prior to the tournament. So it way be the Wednesday or Thursday before the tournament itself that you know if your team will play in the morning or afternoon. Unfortunately, this is just the reality since teams are added and are dropped last minute. I get the information posted on the website and sent through e-mail as soon as I get it prior to each tournament.
As far as communication throughout the season goes, I will send e-mails with reminders and updates, but most information can be found on our website, gcva.net. Each night’s session has their own page, so please check that page somewhat frequently to be up to date on schedules and events. To navigate to the Little Spiker pages, you will go to gcva.net, then select the “Indoor” tab, scroll down to “Little Spikers”. You’ll see another option appear- Tuesday teams or Thursday teams, so select the appropriate night for you and that’s where most information will be ??
I believe that is all for now! Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns regarding the start of Little Spikers Session 2. Reminders about the first night of practice are listed below.
WHEN YOU WALK IN…you need to be registered for USAV and have a completed medical release form if you did not participate in Session 1. The schedule for the first night of practice is below:
