The Budweiser Beer Garden and Bud Light Texas Volleyball Championship return to this year's Chevy's Freedom Over Texas with Fireworks Presented by Shell. The beer garden at the Bud Zone will offer six of your favorite Budweiser beers in a chilled, fun, and relaxed atmosphere. Patrons of the Budweiser Beer Garden will kick back and watch the festival grounds buzzing with activity while sipping on their favorite Budweiser premium beer, or enjoying an ice cold soda or water. Dan Dunn's Paintjam returns to the beer garden for two evening performances, as does the Bud Light Texas Volleyball Championship.

This year's Championship will feature the top men's and women's AVPNext players from around the state of Texas, including San Antonio, Austin, Dallas, Houston and Galveston. The state-wide qualifying tournament schedule is as follows:

  • Saturday, May 20 - San Antonio (men's only qualifier), hosted by Fatso's Sports Garden, www.fatsossportsgarden.com
    • Qualifiers: Tim Wooliver / Todd Maddis
  • Saturday, June 10 – Austin (women's only qualifier), hosted by Austin Beach Volleyball Club, www.austinbeach.com
    • Qualifiers: Erika Figueiredo / Beckie Henderson
  • Saturday, June 17 – Dallas (men's and women's qualifier), hosted by Yucatan Beach Club, www.yucatanbeachclub.com
  • Saturday, June 24 – Houston (men's and women's qualifier), hosted by Third Coast, www.thirdcoastvolleyball.com
  • Saturday, July 1 – Galveston (men's and women's qualifier), hosted by Gulf Coast Volleyball Association, www.gcva.net

Four men's and four women's teams will compete in the semi finals and finals beginning at 4:00 p.m. at Chevy's Freedom Over Texas, prior to the fireworks spectacular. Players are competing for a share of $10,000. There will be opportunities for fans to meet and greet the pros after the action on the sparkling sand court.

Men’s

1st place        -   $3,000
2nd place       -   $2,000

3rd place (2 teams)  - $1,000 each team

Women’s

1st place        -   $1,000 

2nd place       -   $800

3rd place (2 teams)  -  $600 each team


The total prize money is $10,000

 

Rules:

·        You must be a minimum of 21 years of age to qualify.  Any player under 21 will not be allowed to play in the main event since the title sponsor is Budweiser.

·        AVP Format and Rules, AVP - Referee will be officiating the matches.

·        You can only qualify once

 

Each local director can use whatever method they so choose to qualify a team for the main event.  All have chosen the qualifier method.  If a team withdrawals the local tournament director can then choose a replacement team from whatever method the so choose.  We the GCVA has chosen the qualifier method and the winner of our July 1st  Red White n Volleyball event will represent the GCVA.  In case that team cannot play then the 2nd place then 3rd place team…down the line (If 2nd can’t play) from the July 1st event will represent the GCVA.  In case of rainout of the July 1st Tournament then the GCVA will offer the spot to the current GCVA highest ranked Men’s Open Bonus pool POINT leaders.
